Bio

Ashley Hedberg was a four-year member of the Westwood Tennis team, making state finals 3 years in a row with her sister, Lindsey. They won the state doubles title in their junior and senior years. In her senior year, she and her sister led the Westwood team to the state finals. After graduating from Westwood, Ashley enrolled at University of New Mexico and later enrolled at Texas A&M (Business Economics). She went on to do a Masters in Business Economics from University of Santa Barbara. She earned Freshman of the Year at the Mountain West conference. At Texas A&M University, she earned multiple Big XII player of the week awards as well as Regional Senior of the Year and Student Athlete of the Year in her senior year of college. She still plays tennis regularly. She has lots of great memories about her time on the Westwood tennis team, including hanging out with the team members, sharing music and stories, running the 3.5 miles around the neighborhood with the team on the hottest day of the year, the previous coach, Coach Hood driving the team around on the short bus to tourneys, leading the team to state finals and stringing racquets before big tournaments worrying about outcome of the next day! The one memory that was her favorite, though, was when she won the state doubles title with her sister two years in a row. She describes this moment as something that they could share for a lifetime. Looking back on her time as a Warrior, she said that being a member of the team taught her many life lessons, including the importance of fair play, how to deal with the obstacles in life, working with other people and showing respect to the people who try and help you improve. She also advises to enjoy every minute of time on the team, including at different tournaments and practice, because some of the most favorite memories can come from hanging out with your best friends at practice or at tournaments.
