Bio

Laura Cumming graduated from Westwood High School in 1998. She was on the Varsity tennis team for all four years, under the teachings of Coach Hood. Her passion for tennis started ever since she was a little girl, when she would watch her parents play tennis and follow her brother to tournaments. After she picked up the sport, she developed a love for the competitive game and it provided a great way to interact with wonderful people. She made her mark in Westwood tennis history by making it to the Team State Finals in ’97 and Individual State Quarters for doubles with Ashley Hedberg in ’96. Laura had many significant memories with all the great players she competed against and most importantly, she loved Coach Hood. Unable to get by day to day life without tennis and being part of a team, she enthusiastically went on to play collegiate tennis. After high school, she played D III tennis at Trinity University in San Antonio. Laura loved playing Trinity tennis and cherished all of the great accomplishments, including a national championship, and memories she had there. She graduated from Trinity with both her bachelors and masters in education in ’02 and ’03, where she then went on to teach for six years in San Antonio. After marrying her high school sweetheart, Kenneth Browder, they both moved to Las Vegas where Laura is now in the process of becoming a Learning Strategist at an elementary school this coming year. She learned a lot about herself on the tennis courts, and is thankful for all of the people who supported her. Tennis has taken Laura from D III Nationals to meeting the great Billie Jean King. Picking up a racket was one of the best decisions she had made in her life.
