Bio

Tennis alumni Katie Christensen Mott graduated from Westwood High School in 1996. She started playing tennis at the young age of 7 right here in Austin, Texas where she grew up, and joined the varsity tennis team as a freshman. at Westwood she played both doubles and singles. When she played singles she played with Ellyn Killey Jacobson until she graduated, and then Jennifer Gonsoulin until she graduated, and lastly she played with Lindsey Hedberg. She loved playing tennis at Westwood. She made friends that she is still in touch with now! She also enjoyed her coach James Hood, even though he “thought [they] were a cross country team”! After she graduated, she went on to play tennis at Stephen F. Austin state University. There she played both singles, and doubles with Ashley Cagle Martin. Shey says that her college days were “some of the best times of [her] life”! She made life long friends-most of whom were in her wedding- and had an amazing coach. She couldn’t think of a bad thing about her college tennis experience, and “loved every single thing about it”! She has one sister, Laura Christensen Barber, who also played varsity tennis at Westwood. Currently she is a full-time mother and spends most of her time taking care of her two kids- Blake and MiaClaire. To this talented varsity alumni, her experience on the Westwood tennis team was an important, and influential time in her life.
