Bio

Jared Cardiff played on the Westwood varsity tennis team for all four years here. He was number one doubles and 4/5 singles his junior and senior years here, and as a sophomore, the Westwood team had an extremely successful year, finishing 2nd at state. His doubles partner was Sean Fifield, with whom he went to state. They were a successful pair; Cardiff also takes pride that they “were the two best-looking guys on the team.” He admits that Fifield was better than him at tennis, but Cardiff evens this out by exceeding him at ping-pong (essentially just tennis on a smaller scale). His education continued at Southwestern University, where he “played all over” on the team, but had to quit junior year due to an extremely busy schedule. Nonetheless, tennis played a deciding part of his life as he met his wife, Melanie, on the team at Southwestern. They married in 2009, and now live in Houston in a “little house in the heights,” with their two cats Kitty and Clio. Today, he works as an attorney, with a strenuous schedule that requires much travel over the US. He still maintains great relations with Fifield (also an attorney), who “lives down the street.” Looking back on his time on the Westwood tennis team, Cardiff appreciates the “good feeling of being part of something bigger than yourself,” and says that he “played the best players of [his] career in high school”, including players such as Jamin Thompson, Ryan Gerstner, and more. We look forward to his participation in the upcoming alumni tournament, which he will make all efforts to attend.
