Ashwin Kumar is a phenomenal player that went through Westwood High School. He was born in Saint Joseph, MI and moved to Austin at the age of 13 prior to his freshman year. After a couple years at Westwood Kumar attended the John Newcomb’s Tennis Academy at the age of 17. Where he was at the top of the academy. He was first coached by Chris Anderson and then Bob McKinley. Kumar attended Harvard University through a tennis scholarship, and he was an All- American there. On top of all that Kumar was the #1 Harvard singles player from 2006-2008 and a #1 Harvard doubles player from 2005-2008. And some other achievements by Kumar at Harvard were Ivy League/Northeast Region Rookie of the Year in 2005; NCAA doubles participant in 2006 and 2008; and ITA Summer National Doubles Champion in 2007. After graduating from Harvard in June of 2008 with an economics degree, Kumar worked for a couple months. Later in life (only couple months after he graduated) Kumar decided to go pro. As a professional tennis player Kumar was ranked as high as 745 in singles and 450 in doubles. His partner in doubles on the pro circuit was Brett Joelson. As of right now Ashwin Kumar works as a fixed income trader at TransMarket Group, L.L.C in Benton Harbor, Michigan Area.
